Concordia is an all female ensemble consisting of 7 voices and specialising in renaissance music. Led by Jane Ford, a musical teacher of some standing, they have performed actively within the North East of England. The key aim of the group is to bring renaissance music to a broader audience, while expanding the musical experiences of both the younger members and its audiences.
Their first CD, Sanctus Spiritus, was recorded in the chapel of the magnificent Raby Castle in Staindrop, Teesdale, by kind permission of Lord Barnard. It consists of 16 Elizabethan madrigals, sacred and secular, including Fair Phyllis, Now is the Month of Maying and In Pace In Idipsum, by a variety of composers such as Thomas Morley, John Dowland and Palestrina. The repertoire, arranged for unaccompanied female voices, being 400 years old, was extremely fun to sing and has proved to be popular with a wide ranging audience. The ensemble recently featured on BBC Radio 4's Women's Hour.
